I integrate my roles into one identity
There are many roles that I play. In the course of one day I may be a worker, a friend or a lover.
In my recovery, I've learned the appropriate time and place for these roles. I integrate all my roles into one identity, and I am open to exploring new ones.
Appropriate behavior and timing were not something I learned from my family. Taking care of parents whose behavior was inappropriate, limited my opportunities. The rigidity of my family prevented me from trying on new ways of being. The chaos did not provide me with the structure needed for developing my identity.
Today my emerging sense of self gives me the foundation for flexible and comfortable interactions with others. My inner child delights as I explore the richness of who I am.
